OTTAWA - The puck hasn't dropped yet but the Senators can already claim one title.

They were voted the No. 1 sports team in Canada in rankings released online Monday by ESPN Magazine. Ottawa was voted No. 9 in North America and No. 3 in the NHL in the rankings of 122 teams that include the NFL, NBA and MLB.

The rankings are done by judging eight categories including ownership, bang for the buck, fan relationship and coaching.

"Our fans are always one of the Senators organization's most important priorities," Senators owner Eugene Melnyk said in a statement. "This year's ESPN ranking is a testament to the ongoing commitment of our entire organization to continually focus on providing the best possible experience for our great fans.

"We are thrilled and extremely proud to be recognized as Canada's top professional sports team and to achieve an overall top-10 ranking in all of professional sports."
