OTTAWA - In a far corner of the dressing room, Erik Karlsson stood, patiently answering questions.
Questions about his accelerated return to the Senators' lineup Thursday night, about logging 27 minutes of playing time, about being back on the ice at practice Friday, about playing back-to-back games this weekend .... everybody behind one of the cameras or with tape recorder in hand had a question.
Thankfully, nobody was talking about the villainous Matt Cooke, whose skate sliced through the Achilles tendon of the best defenceman in the league on Feb. 13.
It was devastating. The estimated return time was six months.
And, yet, a bit more than two months later, Karlsson returned with three games remaining in the regular season ... a remarkable recovery by a remarkable player.
