OTTAWA - Two nights before their game in D.C., Chris Phillips and the rest of the Senators were cheering for their Capital cousins Tuesday.
By the end of the evening, there were smiling faces in Washington and Ottawa.
The Capitals' 5-3 win over the visiting Winnipeg Jets gave the Senators a big boost in their quest to nail down a playoff spot. Instead of possibly being on the outside looking in (had the Jets won), the Senators need just one win in their final three games to book a playoff spot.
Still, the Senators will be doing some scoreboard watching the rest of the week as they attempt to move up.
"We're following along ... and we'd love some help," the 35-year-old defenceman admitted after Monday's 3-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. "Not that we're needing it, or that's the only way it's going to happen, but it would make things a little easier for us."
