BOSTON - If the current standings hold and the Senators meet the Boston Bruins in the first round of the playoffs, there should be some very long nights ahead.

Ultimately, if the current trend also holds, Ottawa's playoff run will be short.

In a thriller before 17,565 fans at TD Garden on the final night before the trade deadline, a goal by Nathan Horton with 9:39 left in the third period left the Senators on the short end of a 3-2 final against the Bruins on Tuesday.

The Senators have lost all four games between the teams this season, each by one goal and each decided past the 50-minute mark.

Unlike the other tight checking Ottawa-Boston battles, this one was an exciting, back-and-forth affair from start to finish. The Senators were given a power play with 32 seconds left when Milan Lucic was called for interference, but they could not take advantage.
