UNIONDALE, N.Y. - Milan Michalek has gone under the knife.
The Senators winger had knee surgery this morning in New York City.
Sources say he will be gone a month but there was no choice.
As the Sun reported Tuesday, the Senators felt this was the best option for Michalek to give him a chance to play in the post-season.
He has missed 14 of the last 16 games as a result of the injury.
He tried to play through it but after two games it swelled up again.
“We felt if we did this now, it would give him a chance to be back,” said head coach Paul MacLean.
“There was some internal discussions for sure.
And the best case was this.”
MacLean said the exact time frame will be determined after the procedure is finished this afternoon.
