Ottawa Senators need to drop the gloves more
By DON BRENNAN, QMI Agency

Chris Neil was a sixth-round pick of the Senators in 1998.

Injured and out of the Islanders lineup, Matt Carkner saw his old teammates only briefly Sunday afternoon.

As he gave post-game hugs and handshakes to members of the training staff, one couldn't help but think how much the Senators really do miss the artist formerly known as "Big Country."

Carkner was already one of the most intimidating players in the NHL before his fourth last time in a Senators jersey. But in Game 2 of last spring's playoffs, when he beat up Brian Boyle for pushing Erik Karlsson around two nights earlier, he not only provided a spark that helped the Senators even the series, but he also greatly enhanced that reputation.
