In the hours after Erik Karlsson’s ankle was sliced by the skate of Pittsburgh Penguins winger Matt Cooke on Feb. 13 at the Consol Energy Center, Paul MacLean held a meeting to make sure everybody was on the same page.
Despite the loss of the NHL’s top defenceman, the Senators coach wanted to ensure the players didn’t throw up their hands, throw in the towel and consider the season lost just because they were already without centre Jason Spezza.
