Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson wants to play in 2014 Olympics

Daniel Alfredsson could wear the Tre Kroner one more time to close out his storybook career.

The Senators captain isn't certain he'll play again next season, but if he does Alfredsson told the Sun he'd be like to play for Team Sweden at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi.

"If I play next year, that would definitely be one of my goals to be on the Olympic team, no question," said Alfredsson before facing the Buffalo Sabres Tuesday night at Scotiabank Place.

Officials from the NHL, the Players' Association, the International Ice Hockey Federation and the International Olympic Committee will meet Thursday to try to get a deal in place to allow the league to shut down for two weeks.

If Alfredsson, 40, suits up for Sweden, it would be the fifth time he has played at the Olympics. He won gold in 2006 in Turin, Italy, but the NHL's participation next winter won't have any influence on what he does next season.
