Ottawa Senators defenceman Sergei Gonchar not worried about rumours

Sergei Gonchar heard the trade rumours -- those that have him going back to the Pittsburgh Penguins — back in Russia.

"Rumours are rumours," the Senators defenceman, 38, said Friday at Scotiabank Place. "I've been in the NHL for so many years, I've heard so many rumours. I'm not even thinking about it."

But was it not special to be the lone player on the rumour mill during the lockout?

"That was very special, yeah," Gonchar, who has spent the past three months with Magnitogorsk Metallurg of the KHL, said with a laugh. "I stepped on the ice one day and (coach) Paul Maurice was saying, 'you're flying back to Pittsburgh,' and I said 'yeah, the season hasn't even started and I'm already going back.' We were making fun of it."

Are you surprised Don Cherry backed Daniel Alfredsson's comments?
  Yes.
  No.
It's Don Cherry - who knows what he will say.
  Not sure.
