OTTAWA - Once Daniel Alfredsson makes a decision on his future, the Senators can likely relax the rest of the summer.

The Senators signed centre Stephane Da Costa to a one-year, two-way contract Wednesday, which means their forward ranks are now likely complete. Da Costa will make an NHL salary of $800,000 and $80,000 in the AHL.

Da Costa, 23, started the season in Ottawa but was sent to the club’s AHL affiliate in Binghamton only 22 games into the season. By all accounts, he’s going to have to make huge strides to have a shot at making the NHL club.

With 13 forwards on one-way contracts (including Alfredsson), it’s going to be even more difficult for Da Costa to earn a roster spot. Signed as a college free agent in 2011, he had 13 goals and 23 assists in 46 games with Binghamton.
