Senators 'still talking' deal for Nash

PITTSBURGH - Bryan Murray says he’s “sticking (his) nose in a lot of things” to find out what it will cost him to land an impact player.

“We’re not trying to make big plays for a lot of people, though,” the Senators GM said.

But he is still sniffing around the trail that leads to Rick Nash.

Hours before the Pittsburgh Penguins dealt Jordan Staal to the Carolina Hurricanes Friday, Murray said he hadn’t enquired about the big centre. He also admitted he hadn’t talked to Anaheim about disgruntled winger Bobby Ryan.

“My job is to investigate each and every opportunity to get better,” said Murray. “I’ve certainly talked to different teams about certain players, telling them basically what we’re prepared or able to do, and seeing if that’s what they think is enough, or not. We’ll just wait as we go forward to see what kind of response, if any, we get.

“I’ve talked to Columbus about (Nash). Again, it’s whether we want to go forward or not. But (at) the moment, we’re still talking.”
