Alfie guns for 20th goal versus Lightning
By DON BRENNAN, QMI Agency
Those who are into omens might believe Daniel Alfredsson should be good for a couple against the Lightning.
Because it truly is a Beautiful Day in Florida.
For those who don't understand the above reference, Beautiful Day is the name of the U2 song played to celebrate goals by the Senators captain at Scotiabank Place.
With a pair in his last three games, Alfredsson is one away from yet another 20-goal season.
The points he's concerned about most, however, are the two Ottawa can pick up with a win over Tampa Tuesday night.
Despite their recent struggles, the Senators remain seventh in the Eastern Conference, two points up on Toronto and three ahead of Washington.
"If you look at the standings, it's pretty tight, so you've got to try to get points wherever you can," Alfredsson said after the team's morning skate at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. "We've done a pretty good job on the road overall this year, I think, and we'd like to continue that."
The Senators, with a record of 13-11-5, have 31 road points. That ranks them sixth in the conference and ninth in the league as road warriors.
But they've also lost their last four road games.
Craig Anderson will be in goal trying to reverse that trend against the Bolts. Zenon Konopka and Matt Carkner will be the healthy scratches.
The Senators have brought along some added inspiration for this two-game trip, which includes a visit with the Florida Panthers Wednesday in Sunrise. This is also the annual "fathers trip" during which players' dads accompany the team for the two games.
