The axe fell for the final time at Scotiabank Place Saturday and five players were sent packing.

Goalie Robin Lehner along with defencemen Mark Borowiecki and Patrick Wiercioch joined forwards Kaspars Daugavins and Mike Hoffman for the trip to the club's AHL affiliate in Binghamton. The club now has 25 players in camp -- including two goalies, eight defence and 15 forwards.

The decisions mean rookies Mika Zibanejad, Jared Cowen and David Rundblad are on the roster for the moment. The club doesn't want to make any further decisions until the health of forwards Peter Regin and Jesse Winchester are known, along with Carkner.

The club has to get to a 23-man roster by the start of the season, but they could keep more players around because of injuries.
