Butler scores with new deal with Sens
By TIM BAINES, QMI Agency

Ottawa Senators Bobby Butler. (QMI Agency files)

The Senators believe Bobby Butler will be a key contributor in the near future.

They backed up that belief with a two-year, one-way contract Wednesday, assuring Butler that he is in the team's plans at the NHL level.

"This is great for the organization and it's great for him," said Senators assistant GM Tim Murray. "He's a pure goal scorer. He's got a special ability and that's to score goals."

Butler, 24, had 10 goals and 11 assists in 36 games after joining the Senators last season. It was a long season as he also played 70 games in Binghamton, culminating with a Calder Cup victory.

"It's a weight off my shoulders," Butler said. "Now I can just come up and be confident, just be ready to play and not worry if I'm getting shut down or whatnot. Just come and play like I was toward the end of the year, which is with some confidence and having fun.

"It's everything I've ever dreamed for ... myself, my dad and my family. I'm excited and I'm just looking forward to coming to camp (in September)."

Would Patrick Roy make a good coach for the Colorado Avalanche?
