BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Bryan Murray is getting close to his guy.

In Binghamton for the AHL Calder Cup final, the Senators GM said Thursday he has interviewed "five or six" candidates for the coaching job in Ottawa and that he hopes to hire Corey Clouston's replacement before the middle of the month.

"I'll go back over a couple of guys maybe and then in a short period of time, maybe a week or two, I'll make a decision," said Murray. "My objective is to try and get it done sooner than later. Whatever that means, I'm not sure. "It doesn't have to be done before the draft but for my sake, as well as the coaches sake, we'd like to do something before the draft."

The NHL entry draft will be held in Minnesota june 24-25.

Among the names identified in the Sun over the past couple of days as candidates are: Binghamton coach Kurt Kleinendorst, Kirk Muller, Paul MacLean, Dave Cameron and Craig MacTavish.

Would Patrick Roy make a good coach for the Colorado Avalanche?
  Yes, he's perfect
  No, he's not ready
