Carkner likely done for season
By DON BRENNAN, QMI Agency

Matt Carkner’s season is likely over.

The Senators defenceman had arthroscopic surgery on his injured knee last week and it’s now expected he won’t be fully recovered in time for any of the team’s final 12 games.

“He’s probably four weeks away, so when you look at it that way, there’s a good chance he’s going to be done for the season,” coach Cory Clouston said Wednesday.

In 50 games this season, Carkner has a goal, six assists and 136 penalty minutes, while further establishing himself as one of the top fighters in the league. His 12 scraps included a string of four TKOs over NHL heavyweights Derek Boogaard, Eric Godard, Shawn Thornton and George Parros. Boogaard, regarded by many as the most feared and polished brawler in the league, hasn’t played since being concussed by Carkner Dec. 5.
