Melnyk says Sens' rebuild will be quick
By BRUCE GARRIOCH, QMI Agency

Senators owner Eugene Melnyk is confident the rebuilding of the Senators isn’t going to take long.

“When I made up my mind, I was looking at a three- or four- year process,” said Melnyk.

“All of sudden, you start seeing these kids stepping up, and starting to beat up on teams that are supposed to be unbeatable.

“(Senators GM) Bryan (Murray) was very confident when we made the decision.

He said, ‘Eugene, don’t think this is a three- or four-year process, this could be a year or two and we could be competitive next year.’

“If some of these guys step up and we get the goaltending we need, we could be there in two or three years, tops.

“That’s not bad. If I knew that at the beginning, I would have made a decision a long time ago.”
