The Senators will get a couple of reminders of what could have been — in Wild jerseys Thursday: Martin Havlat leads Minnesota in scoring with 27 points, while Matt Cullen’s 19 are the same as Senators scoring leader Daniel Alfredsson.
Havlat handed in his Senators jersey in 2006, but Ottawa has nothing left to show for its trading of him. Cullen, who was obtained by GM Bryan Murray last season, did not figure into the Senators budget when he became a free agent in July.
“I felt the way it was set up, with (Mike Fisher) and Spez in the middle, and (Chris) Kelly still being able to play that third-line role ... Peter Regin was going to score 15 goals this year, and Nick Foligno was going to get 15 goals ... I thought we were covered,” said Murray. “It hasn’t happened, so far. But it will.”
