BOSTON — Senators assistant coach Luke Richardson — a former teammate to many of the team’s players — and his wife Stephanie have tragically lost their 14-year-old daughter, Daron.

The Senators confirmed in a statement late Saturday that Daron tried to take her own life by hanging herself at the family’s home. The club said she was rushed to hospital and succumbed to the injuries in ICU.

“The Ottawa Senators family extends its sincere condolences, thoughts and prayers to Luke, his wife, Stephanie, and their daughter, Morgan, on the passing of Daron,” said the club in a statement. “This is a great tragedy for the Richardsons, their family and friends.

“The club will offer all the support it can to Luke and his family.”

Senators GM Bryan Murray has known the Richardson family for a long time and played hockey with Luke’s dad, Glen.

“To see this tragedy in the family and to understand what it must be like for them,” said Murray. “It’s a dreadful day and a true tragedy for a beautiful family.”

Daron’s organs will be donated to identified recipients in need.
