Sens' Michalek on mend

MONTREAL — Milan Michalek is getting close to returning.

The Senators winger, who has been out for a week with tendinitis in his knee, skated Saturday at the Bell Centre for the first time and is encouraged by the result.

While the Senators have Sunday off, Michalek is hoping to take contact in practice Monday and could suit up Tuesday against the Thrashers at Scotiabank Place if all goes well.

“It’s getting better and I’m feeling pretty good on the ice,” said Michalek, who had been advised to rest the knee. “It’s just a matter of getting better. I’m going to play sometime this week. That would be good.”

Michalek has been working out off the ice.

“It was good to skate. It felt pretty good,” said Michalek. “I wanted to try it out and see how it is.

“Monday, we’ll have a good practise and I’ll see how it is once we put some pressure on it.”
