BUFFALO — The Senators took another hit before the puck was dropped at HSBC Arena Friday.
Centre Jason Spezza was a late scratch because of a groin injury that has troubled him since training camp. He was on the ice for the morning skate, but not for the pre-game warmup.
The club opted to dress seven defencemen. Brian Lee, slated to be a healthy scratch, was inserted into the lineup
Spezza, who missed the season opener with the groin injury, is listed as day-to-day. But it's doubtful he'll play Saturday, either, when the Senators host the Montreal Canadiens.
Against the Sabres, centre Mike Fisher was moved to the top line, while Alex Kovalev skated on a makeshift second line with Peter Regin and Nick Foligno.
