Senators centre Jason Spezza missed practice Thursday with a nagging groin injury and will be "game time decision" for Friday's season opener at Scotiabank Place.

In his absence, Peter Regin was moved up to second line centre on restructured line combinations.

Coach Cory Clouston said Spezza wouldn't miss much time, if any at all.

"He's very disappointed he wasn't able to practice today," said Clouston.

If Spezza can't go against Buffalo, it appears Mike Fisher would be the team's first line centre between Daniel Alfredsson and Nick Foligno and Regin would skate with Alex Kovalev and Milan Michalek.

The third line of Jarkko Ruutu-Chris Kelly-Chris Neil will stay together, and Ryan Shannon would pull into the lineup on the fourth line with Jesse Winchester and Zack Smith.
