Daniel Alfredsson would love to suit up in the 2012 NHL all-star game at Scotiabank Place.
He should be guaranteed a spot.
While the Senators captain is a five-time all-star, nothing could match suiting up in front of his hometown faithful when the puck is dropped for the game 499 days from now on Jan. 29, 2012.
“They make it a great event and you also have a lot of fun with it,” said Alfredsson. “It’s a great weekend. (Playing in it) would be unbelieveable. That’s something that you don’t get free access to be in.
“You’ve got to earn it to get there and I’d love to be part of it, but I’m sure I will be part of it even if I’m not playing in the game.”
Alfredsson was accompanied to the news conference by Jason Spezza, Sergei Gonchar, Chris Phillips and Filip Kuba
Spezza took part in the 2007 all-star game in Atlanta and had a terrific weekend.
“The really exciting for players,” said Spezza. “You get a chance to meet other guys and you have the chance to get your family involved. It’s always a special thing for players to get recognized.
“To have it in Ottawa is great for the city and gives you motivation as a player to want to play in your hometown as well.”
