Jonathan Cheechoo can officially take his money and run.

The Senators winger cleared waivers at noon Tuesday which means the club will be able to exercise his $2.2 million buyout of his $3.5 million contract.

Cheechoo, 29, will be an unrestricted free agent and is going to be able to shop himself else where. His agent Thane Campbell said in an email he hoped there would be interest in Cheechoo on the open market.

Cheechoo had only 5-14-19 points in 61 games with Ottawa last season. He finished the year with the AHL's Binghamton Senators.

The 29-year-old scored 56 goals with the San Jose Sharks in 2005-06.
