The Senators will roll out the welcome mat for the Buffalo Sabres when they open their 2010-11 season at Scotiabank Place Oct. 8.

They follow that game up with another division rival as they travel to Toronto to take on the Maple Leafs Oct. 9 meeting.

Just 22 of the team's 41 home games are in the first half of the season - leaving 19 down the stretch - a fact that pleases the Senators.

"We're very happy with the schedule," said team president Cyril Leeder. "The best thing about it is the balance. It's well laid out, the games are spread out throughout the year.

"The fans are going to like it and we're going to like it."

Dany Heatley will make his first trip to Ottawa since the Senators gave in to his trade demands last summer when the San Jose Sharks visit Dec. 2.

The Senators season ends April 9 in Boston.
