Peter Regin has heard the buzz. Now he wants to feel it.

The rookie winger is pumped about the prospect of playing in the NHL playoffs, a dream which will be realized if the Senators take at least one point out of their game at Scotiabank Place Thursday night against the Carolina Hurricanes. One point would give them 90 on the season, and neither the ninth-place Atlanta Thrashers nor the 10th-place New York Rangers could unseat them as a playoff participant.

“I’m very excited,” Regin said when asked about playing in the post-season tournament. “The guys have talked about it, how it is, and it sounds like a lot of fun.

“They’ve talked about the year they had the run to the finals and I’m sure lots of the guys want to go there again.”

Regin extended his goal-scoring streak to three games -- while netting his fourth in five games -- to kick start Ottawa’s 5-4 overtime win in Washington Tuesday.

The line of Regin, Jason Spezza and Daniel Alfredsson combined for nine points, with Alfredsson getting his fourth assist when the league reviewed a Spezza goal Wednesday.

Coach Cory Clouston said Regin might stay on the top line even when Milan Michalek returns from injury, which is expected to be in the last week of the season. Michalek has had a share of the team goal scoring lead playing all season as Spezza’s left winger. Clouston also expects Anton Volchenkov back in the lineup for the Hurricanes game. He didn’t play in Washington because of an upper body injury he suffered Saturday.

Clouston said NCAA scoring star Bobby Butler will likely make his debut either against Carolina or Saturday in Long Island. Butler was signed to a two-year, free agent contract earlier this week.
