Mike Fisher had a whirlwind weekend.

First, the Senators centre scored the winning goal in Saturday's 3-2 OT victory over the Canadiens. Then, he jumped on a plane to Los Angeles after the game to spend the weekend with fiancee Carrie Underwood and accompany her to Sunday's Grammy Awards at the Staples Center.

And nobody can accuse Fisher of being a slacker. When the Senators stepped on the ice for practice Monday at the Bell Sensplex, Fisher was there skating on a line with Peter Regin and Alexei Kovalev.

The two-day break in the schedule came at a perfect time for Fisher, who was able to play Saturday afternoon, take advantage of the day off in Los Angeles with Underwood and be back in time for the workout.

So, how’d Fisher get back so quick?

“I ran ... really, really fast,” he said with a smile.

After getting engaged to the former American Idol winner in December, Fisher wanted to be there to support Underwood at the big event in L.A. It’s not known if he’ll be in Miami for Sunday’s Super Bowl when Underwood sings the U.S. national anthem.

If Fisher is there, you can be certain the photographers will find him. Not only was he pictured with Underwood at the end of the red carpet Sunday, he was also seen at a dinner Saturday at the Beverley Hills Hilton.

“It was fun. It was good to be there and support Carrie. She’s always there to support me,” said Fisher, who was tight-lipped and only admitted that he met quite a few celebrities. “There were some great performances and I had a great time.”

Underwood decided not to expose Fisher to the red carpet when they arrived before the show. She walked down the carpet and smiled for photos without Fisher while he waited for her at the end.

“I can’t feed him to the wolves this early in the engagement,” Underwood told E’s! Ryan Seacrest in a red-carpet interview. “I’m Mike-less. He’s waiting for me at the end.”

The duo did pose for cameras before Underwood took part in the Earth Song, which was a tribute to late pop singer Michael Jackson.

Underwood, who met Fisher following a concert at Scotiabank Place in March 2008, wanted to take it easy on her beau.

“No, this is all new for him,” she said. “I figured we'll take some pictures together ... ease him into my world a little bit.”

They will likely see each other again during the two-week Olympic break later this month. Fisher told TSN's Pierre McGuire last week the couple plans to go south for a few days before heading back to Nashville to make wedding plans.
