The Senators have been shutting down opponents regularly the past couple of weeks without him.

But they'll still welcome back one of their top shutdown defenceman, Anton Volchenkov, who could now return to the lineup as early as Tuesday night.

Volchenkov practised with the team at Scotiabank Place Monday morning and is listed as probable for Tuesday's visit by the New Jersey Devils.

Volchenkov missed Saturday's 2-1 victory over the Boston Bruins with an upper body injury.

The Senators, now fifth in the Eastern Conference, have won six games in a row, giving up a total of seven goals in the process.

Garnering much of the credit for their success is goalie Brian Elliott, who has been named the NHL's first star of the week. Elliott won four games in six days, allowing just five goals in the process.

He's likely to get the start against Devils great Martin Brodeur Tuesday.
