Now that's an optional practice.

Fourth liners Jesse Winchester, Ryan Shannon and Peter Regin, defenceman Erik Karlsson and Alex Picard and backup goalie Mike Brodeur were the only Senators who took part in an optional practice at the Bell Sensplex the morning after the team's 2-0 win in Philadelphia Thursday.

Injured players Pascal Leclaire and Chris Neil skated beforehand and both remain on track to return in 7-10 days.

The Senators will be looking for their second win in a row when they host the Carolina Hurricanes, the NHL's last-place team, Saturday night at Scotiabank Place.

Cam Ward, who is working his way back into form after missing 14 games with a lacerated leg, is expected to be in goal for Carolina.

Brian Elliott will likely make his 12th consecutive start for Ottawa.

The Hurricanes will be coming off a game in Washington Friday night. Before taking on the Caps, they had lost six of eight.

"We can't take them lightly, that's for sure," said Senators coach Cory Clouston. "We've had that problem in the past, maybe underestimated an opponent. Ward's back, so obviously that's an important part of their puzzle. They're a good team."
