The Boston Bruins will pose a formidable challenge tonight for any Senators player looking to impress in the team's final NHL preseason game.

The Bruins shape up as one of the strongest teams in the NHL's Eastern Conference, so tonight's game at Scotiabank Place will give the Senators a chance to find out where they sit entering the season. It's also a final chance for some players, who are in danger of not making the NHL club, to impress against a strong opponent.

Ottawa coach Cory Clouston is trying to play down that aspect of the match, however.

"We just want these guys to play their game. Every one of those guys (fighting for jobs) has been playing their game and playing it well," he said during today's morning skate. "If the game is elevated, we want to make sure they elevate their game."

The club will scratch centre Zack Smith, along with Shean Donovan, Jarrko Ruutu and defenceman Alex Picard. Defenceman Filip Kuba will also sit out with a lower body injury.

Clouston is pleased the Senators will wrap up the preseason against a contender.

"We're facing a tough opponent and it's really good challenge," he said. "We just want to see structure in our game. We want a high compete level. That's really what we are looking for."

The Sens also confirmed goaltender Pascal Leclaire will start and play the full 60 minutes.
