Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson says trading Dany Heatley would be the best scenario for everybody, but if Heatley reports to training camp, he will have to explain to his teammates why he wants out.
"We're still a week away and a lot of things can happen before that, but if it comes to that (where Heatley reports to camp), he can't just wipe it under the rug and go on. He's going to have to address the situation," said Alfredsson following an informal skate Friday at the Bell Sensplex.
Alfredsson said he hasn't spoken with Heatley all summer.
"It's not a big deal," said Alfredsson.
Alfredsson wasn't going to get involved in the debate about whether Heatley should keep his alternate captain's 'A' either.
"I don't know if that's my decision either. I'm sure that will be addressed with the coaching staff and the manager when it comes to that point," said Alfredsson.
Ideally, everybody would like to see Heatley dealt before the club opens camp next Saturday with medicals at Scotiabank Place.
"It would be the best scenario for everybody, but if it was that easy then something would have already been done," said Alfredsson.
