Ouch! Volchenkov injures foot
By SUN MEDIA

Anton Volchenkov has finally paid the price for blocking a shot -- a blast which may have come off the stick of teammate Christoph Schubert.

The Senators defenceman, an NHL leader in blocked shots during the regular season, has been sent back to Ottawa from the world hockey championship in Switzerland after he suffered a fractured foot during Russia's 5-0 win over Germany on the weekend.

Reports indicated that Volchenkov blocked a Schubert shot. It's believed Volchenkov was checked out by Senators team doctor Don Chow and athletic therapist Gerry Townend, who are both overseas working with Team Canada, before leaving Switzerland. The belief is the fracture won't require surgery and Volchenkov should be fine for training camp in September.
