NOTEBOOK

The Senators got D Anton Volchenkov back last night against the Hurricanes, but were without another blueliner. D Brian Lee was a late scratch (upper body injury). Coach Cory Clouston had planned to scratch RW Shean Donovan and move Christoph Schubert back to forward. The Senators have liked what they've seen from Schubert, who dressed as a defenceman with Lee out. "He's been very good whether we've used him at forward or defence in his last couple of games," said Clouston ... Carolina C Rod Brind'Amour played his 1,398th NHL game last night. He plays game 1,400 April 2 against the New York Rangers at the RBC Center ... Schubert was shaken up late in the third when he was hammered by Carolina F Tuomo Ruutu with a clean hit. Clouston said he was okay after the game.
