How Swede it is!

A humbled Daniel Alfredsson brought his own shovel and five-year-old son Hugo to help to pay off a debt yesterday.

The Senators captain made good on his lost bet -- that would be for Sweden's 5-1 loss to Canada in the final of the world junior championship earlier this month -- to teammate Shean Donovan by making the short trek to Donovan's house in Carp and shovelling the winger's small backyard rink.

"The snow is pretty light. The weather is okay. I thought this might be a good day for it," said Alfredsson. "We hadn't had any snow. (There's) snowfall and (it's) not a game day. A good day to pay my dues."

Donovan, who suffered a lower-body injury Sunday, brought out a kid's shovel for Alfredsson, but was pleased with the job that only took about 25 minutes.

"Hopefully, he learned not to bet against Canada," said Donovan. "He did a good job, though. It was a pretty fun bet. Thank God Canada won because he's got a rink about seven times the size of this. It would have been pretty ugly going the other way."
