It'll be a slightly more comfortable Brian Elliott who will be making his second straight start in the Senators goal tonight.

And remember, the first one didn't look so bad at that.

"Just being out practicing with the speed, and the kind of shots these guys have, just keeps your mind on the right page," Elliott said after this morning's skate at Scotiabank Place. "Every game is that much more experience."

Elliott, the AHL's goalie of the month in December, stopped 25 of 27 shots in his season debut in Ottawa, a 2-0 loss Saturday at the hands of the New York Rangers.

In his only other NHL start, he beat the Thrashers 3-1 in Atlanta Oct. 10, 2007.

Unless he's horrible against Carolina tonight, Elliott is also expected to face the Thrashers in Atlanta tomorrow night.

Meanwhile, with Jarkko Ruutu returning from a two-game suspension, coach Craig Hartsburg has decided to make defenceman Brendan Bell a healthy scratch versus the Hurricanes.

Bell has two goals, nine shots on net and a minus-2 rating in the four games since he was last stapled to a seat in the press box.
