As Chris Neil was heading towards the dressing room, Ryan Shannon was headed back to Binghamton.
The rugged winger is ready to return tomorrow against the Pittsburgh Penguins during Sidney Crosby's only visit to Scotiabank Place, which means Shannon's presence is no longer required and he was returned to the club's AHL affiliate.
"I was hoping to play yesterday, but we wanted to make sure that an extra couple of days will help," said Neil today.
Centre Dean McAmmond, who has been troubled by a throat infection and flu, wasn't on the ice and won't be ready. Neil will likely skate on a line with Jarrko Ruutu and Cody Bass to see if they can create some energy against the Penguins.
Defenceman Alex Picard wasn't on the ice with the team and won't be ready to suit up either. He said he suffered a setback with his sore wrist during practice Tuesday.
"It felt great. I was really optimistic and I thought I was going to play Wednesday in my mind. I woke up really sore," said Picard. "It's been the same pretty much since."
