The Senators are going to give kids a hand.

Not only are the Senators going to sponsor two teams in the Kanata Girls Hockey Association, the club will also host its annual Minor Hockey Week from Jan. 10-18, which will include an open practice exclusively for local teams.

Speaking at a press conference to announce the initiatives yesterday at Scotiabank Place, Senators GM Bryan Murray said it's important for the team to stay in touch with the grassroots of the community.

"Being involved with hockey teaches team play and traits that will be carried for a lifetime," said Murray. "I was having coffee with some friends (yesterday) and hockey has been a big influence on our lives and you don't have to be an NHL player for that to happen."

Do you think the NHL will ever return to Quebec City?
