Noted Habs killer Daniel Alfredsson will stay at home when the Senators leave for Montreal and Friday's preseason game against the Canadiens.

The Ottawa captain will be back in the lineup for the return engagment between the two teams Saturday at Scotiabank Place.

After this morning's practice, coach Craig Hartsburg also said that centre Mike Fisher and defenceman Alexandre Picard are making progress with their respective groin injuries, but neither will play Friday night.

Veteran Shean Donovan was scheduled to make the trip to Montreal, but he showed up at the rink this morning complaining of a hip flexor problem.

Hartsburg will continue to use rookie Jesse Winchester with Jason Spezza and Dany Heatley, while Nick Foligno is expected to step in to Alfredsson's vacated spot on a line with Antoine Vermette and Chris Kelly.

While Cody Bass will centre Chris Neil and Jarkko Ruutu, veteran Dean McAmmond will be back in the lineup and working with rookies Zack Smith and Peter Regin.

Alex Auld will play the entire game in goal for the Senators.
