Antoine Vermette has avoided arbitration, the Sun has learned.

Sources say the Senators centre agreed to a two-year, $5.525 million contract this morning. He will make $2.525 million next season and $3 million in 2009-10.

"I'm happy. Ottawa is where I want to play hockey and I love the city," said Vermette.

"I love the fan base and the support we have there. We have a good team and I have some good friends on the team as well. All that being said, I have a chance there to see what my role (will be) in the next two years and go from there."
