Ray Emery will try to get his NHL career back on track - but it won't be in Ottawa.

While agent J.P. Barry insists the troubled goaltender is "taking steps" this summer to make sure he returns to the form that helped lead the Senators to the Stanley Cup final two years ago, that didn't stop GM Bryan Murray from sending Emery packing yesterday.

The Senators served Emery, 25, with notice they're buying him out of the final three years of his $6.75-million salary and then placed him on waivers. If nobody claims him by noon today, Emery, who will receive approximately $2.25 million as a result of the buyout, will be free to shop himself around as an unrestricted free agent.

"(Emery) regrets everything that happened there and he's taking steps to make sure that never happens again," said Barry before last night's draft at Scotiabank Place.
