Emery hit with 3 tickets

Senators goalie Ray Emery faced the Ottawa media yesterday, but refused to discuss his latest brush with the law.

Then he went Off The Record.

Speaking with TSN's Michael Landsberg on his 6 p.m. show, Emery addressed questions regarding an incident in which he was pulled over by Ottawa police Friday afternoon, as well as comments he made in the Sunday Sun that he "questions why (he) gets pulled over so much here."

Emery told the Sun that he gets pulled over by the cops "three or four times a week" when he's driving his white Hummer.

Behind the wheel of a rental he's had since the fall and until Friday, he hadn't been pulled over at all.

'PULLED OVER QUITE A BIT'

In responding to Landsberg's questions, Emery said: "I've been pulled over quite a bit. I've been hit at least 30 times the last two years."

Asked how many times he was given a ticket, he said: "I've got three tickets, but that's it."

Landsberg asked about the other 27 times.

"Yeah, just routine checks," Emery responded.

What was he told by the cops?

"That's it, routine checks," Emery said. "I had a rental Yukon for three months and I didn't get one routine check."

Landsberg asked Emery why he thought that was.

"Because it was licensed to the dealer," he said. "They run the plates and it doesn't say Ray Emery."

Emery, who played well in Saturday's 6-1 victory over Montreal, starts tonight against the Sabres at Scotiabank Place.

Jason Spezza chuckled when asked about Emery's latest headlines.

"We just laugh," he said. "Nobody really heard anything about it. I think everything he does right now is going to be magnified. Everybody's looking to catch him doing something.

"For us, it doesn't matter. We just care about how he plays on the ice. He's been great at practice, he's been working ... model citizen showing up on time. If he gets pulled over, if he gets in an argument with somebody on the off-hours, then that's what he wants to do. As long as he's at the rink and doing his thing here."
