A familiar face will round out the Senators' coaching staff this season, the Sun has learned.

Longtime goaltending coach Ron Low will be promoted to assistant coach, joining new coach John Paddock's staff, along with Greg Carvel and Randy Lee.

While Paddock considered hiring former Senators captain Randy Cunneyworth and former NHLer Ryan McGill, Low is familiar with the players and has strong ties to the organization.

He and Paddock worked together when Paddock was the coach of the Senators' AHL team in Binghamton.

ZUBOV SIGNED

Meanwhile, Senators GM Bryan Murray announced the signing of centre Ilja Zubov to an entry-level contact.

Zubov, 20, was Ottawa's fourth-round pick (98th overall) in the 2005 draft.

The native of Chelyabinsk, Russia, has twice represented his country at the world junior championship, most recently in Leksand, Sweden, where his team won a silver medal.

In six games during the 2007 tournament, he scored three goals and added one assist.
