Lawrence Nycholat is going to get a chance to play his second game and more for Ottawa.

An unrestricted free agent, the 28-year-old defenceman was re-signed yesterday by the Senators, who also inked free-agent right winger Niko Dimitrakos to a one-year deal.

EIGHT POINTS

Acquired in a trade with Washington by then-GM John Muckler on Feb. 27, Nycholat played one game for the Senators last season.

In 28 games spent mostly with Washington but also including a brief stay with the Rangers, Nycholat has two goals, six assists and 18 penalty minutes.

It's expected restricted free agent Christoph Schubert will move back to the blue line full-time, leaving Nycholat to compete for the No. 7 job on the Senators' defence.

Dimitrakos, 28, is a veteran of 158 NHL games. The 5-foot-11, 205-pounder has scored 24 goals and 38 assists with San Jose and Philadelphia.

A native of Somerville, Mass., Dimitrakos was originally a fifth-round pick of the Sharks in 1999.

He ended last season with the AHL's Chicago Wolves.
