The Senators have decided to send Denis Hamel packing.

The Senators winger was placed on waivers today as the club decided it can no longer carry 22 healthy players. Hamel had seen game action while the Senators battled a spate of injuries through the first half of the season, but had been a healthy scratch since the return of most of the injured regulars.

Speculation has been rampant in recent days that the Senators would shed at least one of their extra players, if for no other reason than to create a bit more room under the salary cap if they want to make a move before the trade deadline. Hamel is making $450,000 this season.

He appeared in 43 games, scoring four goals and adding three assists for seven points.

If he clears waivers, Hamel will be returned to the club's AHL affiliate in Binghamton.
