TORONTO -- Yanic Perreault is getting close to making a decision on his future.

And he might just land with the Senators.

While Senators GM John Muckler was reluctant to talk about the unrestricted free-agent centre, indications are the club held serious discussions Perreault's representatives yesterday.

Whether that's actually going to lead to a deal between the two sides remains to be seen, but Ottawa is among a group of teams that has looked at Perreault.

"I'm just not going to discuss it," said Muckler.

It's believed the Lightning, Panthers, Islanders, Blackhawks, Flames and Predators have also had talks with Perreault, who had 58 points (22 goals) last season with Nashville.

But the Senators have questions about Perreault, who has been skating near his home in Magog, Que., while recovering from off-season abdominal surgery. The club is trying to decide where he'd fit in: Is he strong enough to be the second-line centre or will rookie Alexei Kaigorodov eventually fit into that role?

If the Senators bring in Perreault, then Kaigorodov and Denis Hamel will likely be sent to the club's AHL affiliate in Binghamton.

Sources say Perreault hasn't had any formal offers, but is seeking $1 million this season.

He is at the point where he's got to make a decision on what kind of team he wants to play for and the Senators might be the perfect fit.
