So far, so good for Spezza

Centre Jason Spezza, who had off-season back surgery to repair a herniated disc, felt good after the Senators' first on-ice session at the Bell Sensplex yesterday.

And while he expects to play in Tuesday's pre-season opener against the Pittsburgh Penguins in Halifax, Spezza knows there are no guarantees until after the first couple of scrimmages.

"It felt good. Obviously, I am going to know more in the next few days as the practices get more intense and there's more contact involved," said Spezza.

SCHUBERT AILING: Ottawa D Christoph Schubert was absent from the first day of workouts. Coach Bryan Murray said Schubert has been battling chest congestion since arriving in town for camp. The club sent him for more testing and hopes to have results today. "I really don't know much. He wasn't feeling well. There was something there where he was coughing," said Murray. "He said since he came back from his holidays, he hasn't really felt well. (Doctors) just wanted to do some tests before he went out there and skated."
