LALIME OUT UNTIL DECEMBER: G Patrick Lalime just can't catch a break. The former Senator will have back surgery this morning to repair a herniated disc and he'll be out until December. Trying to rebound with the Blackhawks this season after a horrible year with the Blues, Lalime spent the summer recovering from ACL surgery. "I could have tried rehabilitation, but there were no guarantees and we felt the best option was surgery," Lalime, who signed to be Nikolai Khabiublin's backup, said yesterday from Chicago. "This is tough, but I'm going to have this done and I'm going to be able to come back. I'm trying to keep my chin up and stay positive."
SPEZZA OKAY: Senators coach Bryan Murray isn't sure if C Jason Spezza will be ready for the pre-season opener Tuesday in Halifax against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Spezza is still recovering from back surgery he had May 31. "I was told that he wasn't quite 100%, but I went to watch him skate last week and he was the best player on the ice as he should be," said Murray. "I guess that's a question I'll be better able to answer in the next couple of days. I know he is feeling good."
