Breaking down the trade
By BRUCE GARRIOCH -- Ottawa Sun
Who the Senators got:
- D Tom Preissing: Had 43 points last season with San Jose ... Is a right-handed shot and has the skills to play the point on the power play ... Got a lot of his points playing with Joe Thornton, Jonathan Cheechoo and Patrick Marleau ... Makes $600,000 US.
- C Josh Hennessy: Was with Chicago's AHL team last season in Cleveland, where he notched 24 goals and 39 assists in 80 games ... An American from the Boston area, he is a former captain of the QMJHL's Quebec Remparts, who learned to speak French during his stint in Quebec.
- D Michal Barinka: A good prospect and a smart player ... Tough, physical blueliner with good size. Hasn't played a lot in the NHL and is expected to play in Binghamton.
RATING THE TRADE: In the end, Chicago got Martin Havlat and Bryan Smolinski. The Sharks picked up Mark Bell from Chicago. The Senators will have Tom Preissing in the lineup next year, which will help the club financially. The 'Hawks win the deal because they got the best player -- Havlat.
