THE SKINNY: The veteran has had a bit of a rough go of it against Ottawa this year (which doesn't make him unique among goaltenders). He's 0-2 against the Senators with a 5.27 goals against average and a .843 save percentage this season ... He has a 17-23-7 record this season overall ... He's a bit of an offensive threat with three assists, a career high for him and tying him with L.A.'s Mathieu Garon and Montreal's David Aebischer for the league lead among goalies ... He was a 2006 Olympian, suiting up for Germany ... Owns a 7-12-3 career mark against the Senators.

NOTEWORTHY

Some in the Senators camp were wondering why there was no call Friday night on a blatant butt end administered to Ottawa C Jason Spezza by Atlanta Thrasher F Brad Larsen. He went after Spezza after the Senators centre dropped Thrashers star F Ilya Kovalchuk with an old-school hip check that caught Kovalchuk in the right leg and sent him spinning to the ice. Kovalchuk went to the dressing room, but returned later ... The Capitals were busy at the trade deadline. They claimed forward Rico Fata off waivers from the Atlanta Thrashers ... They also moved D Brendan Witt to Nashville for F Kris Beech and the Predators' first-round draft pick in next year's draft and F Jeff Friesen to Anaheim for a second rounder ... Ray Emery will get his seventh straight start tonight in the Ottawa net. He's 5-1 since taking over for injured Dominik Hasek after the Olympic break ... Senators coach Bryan Murray owns a 9-8 record against his old team.

BLACK AND BLUE REPORT

SENATORS: RW Martin Havlat (shoulder), out until April 1; G Dominik Hasek (adductor muscle), out indefinitely.
