THE SKINNY: Local product has already exceeded his previous best goal total of 23, set in 2000-01 with the Calgary Flames and his previous single-season high for assists (42 in 2000-01) ... In his third year with the Thrashers, his third NHL club (Rangers, Flames) ... Though he's not real big, Savard has a feisty side. His 80 penalty minutes rank second on the Thrashers behind only Andy Sutton's 104 ... He's averaging 20 minutes, 41 seconds a game, third most among Atlanta forwards (Ilya Kovalchuk and Marian Hossa lead) ... Played his junior hockey with the Oshawa Generals and played in the Memorial Cup in Hull in 1997.

NOTEWORTHY

Senators D Chris Phillips was waiting anxiously yesterday to find out who Team Canada would select to round out its roster after Anaheim D Scott Niedermayer withdrew because of a knee injury. Phillips has plans for the Olympic break, but would gladly change them, he said. He didn't get the call ... Senators W Brian McGrattan participated in the morning skate yesterday at Madison Square Garden, but said his peripheral vision hasn't improved to the point where he can play yet. There's a possibility he might not play until after the Olympic break ... The Thrashers, who lost to the Leafs 4-1 in Toronto on Tuesday night, practised at the University of Ottawa yesterday in preparation for tonight's game ... The Thrashers hammered the Senators 8-3 in Atlanta on Jan. 2 ... Senators coach Bryan Murray said he wouldn't make a decision on who would play in net tonight until after last night's game against the Rangers.
